Last but not least.....my final reflections

First off, I’d like to say that I’m glad to have taken up this module though initially I was indeed overwhelmed by the workload of the course. What Ms Lim has taught us in this course is very relevant to all areas and aspects of our lives. I quote from Plato “Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.” Effective communication can help us to bring across what we have to say to those around us.

The biggest take away I’ve had from this course is that I’ve learned that communications is not a one way process but rather it’s a two way process, hence the importance to have the “YOU” attitude in all forms of communications that we do, from our writings to our presentations. After all, we can write the best essay or give the best speech, but if the audience is unable to receive our message, those words being written or said will be pointless.

Secondly, I’ve also learned in the process of crafting our team’s proposal to be critical of that we are including into our proposal. It is through this process of giving feedbacks and improving on subsequent ideas that I realize this is a very important process to improve the quality of our work. This is definitely another skill that I’ve honed in this course where I can use it for other areas of my life in future.

Lastly, I’d like to thank all my peers in ES2007s whom I’ve worked with especially my peer teaching group and Team Planet. I’ve learned a great deal about working in groups with all of you and as well as the wonderful memories of staying late in school and during the weekends to complete our work. I’d also like to thank Ms Lim for her guidance and patience to impart the skills for effective communications to me. You have been a wonderful teacher and thank you for everything. =)

  1. Hey Jeremy,

Yes, communication is not about speaking only. It does also include the listening to make it two ways. Having the "You" attitude would help us get the message across better and feel affected by the issue. Also, I agree that whatever we learn in this module not only will be used in daily basis.

I believe this module would be the most related module for my future rather than any other core module and thank you for making this module interesting as an peer teacher and also class mate.

All the best for your future. =)

  2. Hey Jeffrey (:

I agree with you that honest feedback is necessary to produce good teamwork, due to the two-way nature of communication. I'm glad that our team started doing this early by listening and making compromises for one another. It'll be hard to find such an awesome team.

I'd also like to thank you for saving the day so many times by coming up with such awesome ideas. Despite the fact that they were shot down so many times by us and NEA, you weren't afraid to come up with new, more refined ones. This is definitely a very valuable skill, one that you should bring to your future job (in finexis? gasp!)

Haha anyway, here's wishing you an awesome graduation and an even greater future ahead (:

  3. Hey Jeremy!

Congratulations on completing your final blog post! haha. it's over! not only the course but your years in NUS!

You brought up a good point when you talked about our proposal crafting process. Before this course, I would not have seen the logic of consistently critiquing our work, but after this experience, I now know how much the feedback can help refine our product into one with much higher quality.

I finally realize that it's not perfection we are chasing, but work with the highest quality and maximal effort. This mindset and skill would definitely benefit us in the future, in many many aspects of our life.

Thanks for being part of my ES2007S experience man, and all the best for your life after NUS! =)

    zab
